Raiding: Goals, Requirements, Rules, and Fall Schedule

•September 16, 2009 • Leave a Comment

We have some new members, level 80s, and raiders, so this post will cover general (and I mean very general) raiding info for our guild. Obviously chat with me in game if you have questions or suggestions; I don’t want to write a novel here.

Goals

As if I even need to say it…most importantly, we are a relaxed–but progression-oriented–guild. We want to raid to have fun, most of us are RL friends and working adults with busy lives, and we need to make the most of our precious hours in WoW : )

We’ve all been busy running heroics and ToC post-3.2 these past weeks, but it is time to turn our focus to 10-mans again. Our primary focus will be Ulduar. Gearing through heroics, ToC, PUG raids, and professions should get most geared for Ulduar pretty quickly. We will continue to run Naxx (and of course VoA and OS) some as well for those that are not quite ready for Ulduar and those that just want to see it for the first time and not skip content, but Ulduar will be our focus for the near future.

Getting Your Venomhide Ravasaur Mount

•August 23, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Apparently, back in the days of ‘ol when the original World of Warcraft game was released, there were two mounts available from questing – Alliance had the Reins of the Winterspring Frostsaber in Winterspring and Horde had the Whistle of the Venomhide Ravasaur in Un’Goro Crater. For reasons unknown, perhaps the level difference in the zones, Blizzard abandoned the Ravasaur mount for the Horde and since then players have been crying foul. Well, they finally got around to putting this lost NPC back into the game and even though it takes 20 days to achieve, the Ravasaur is a fine looking mount to collect. Here’s how to get yours:

- Travel to Un’Goro crater and visit Mor’vek the troll atop his Ravasaur mount at 71,73. Speak with him to get the level 53 quest “Toxic Tolerance
- The Venomhide Ravasaurs are the green dinos around 66,51. If you’re level 80, I’ve found its best to fight the Venomhides naked and disarmed. Once they’ve spit on you 20 times, you’re done. Return to Mor’vek and turn in quest
- Pick up quest “Venomhide Eggs” from Mor’vek. Collect sparkly eggs from nests in and around 66,62 Return to Mor’vek and turn in quest.
- Pick up “They Grow Up So Fast” and get a Venomhide Hatchling in your inventory. – From here, its very similar to the orphan quests. Summon your Hatchling in Un’Goro, Tanaris, or Silithis. Pick up and Turn in dailies to your summoned hatchling and get a tooth as a reward. Once a day and repeat for 20 days (in a row or non-consecutive, doesn’t matter).Note: If you’re coming from Dalaran, you can take the portal to Caverns of Time at the top of the stairs in Violet Citadel.
- After 20 days, return to Mor’vek in Un’Goro Crater with 20 rugged leather, 20 runecloth, and your 20 baby teeth to get your mount.

Good luck on your quests!

“Do You Wanna Date My Avatar” by The Guild

Found this video on YouTube and thought you’d enjoy it too. “Do You Wanna Date My Avatar” by The Guild. Its too funny! I found the production quality of the song and the video to be well done so we might just hear more from these folks, but in the meantime, explore some of the other videos they have on YouTube and on their website. You can also download the MP3 on iTunes if you love it as much as I did. Enjoy!

Get started RIGHT with the Midsummer Fire Festival!

•June 21, 2009 • 3 Comments

Ok, the holiday quests are here and we know everyone’s excited. I am too! :D If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you’ll find some background info here. Before you race off to put out all those alliance bonfires, be sure to decide what you want to achieve in advance. I’ve *read* that after putting out all the fires and doing all the dailies each day, its simply not possible to get enough Burning Blossoms for all of the items on sale during the 14 day period. Also, there’s some debate over whether or not you’ll be “locked out” of certain events that you may have done already last year on the same toon. I haven’t been able to personally verify either of these yet but I did want to post the warning. That means if you want a shot at all achievements and both pets you need to read up and prioritize.

Here’s the map of all bonfires in Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms, and Outlands so you can plan your trip. Also, here’s a list of where the Midsummer Celebrants are in each area for those looking for specific coordinates. If anyone finds a map of Northrend bonfires, please post, but I found this list…

Alliance Northrend Sholazar Basin River’s Hearth [47, 66]
Horde Northrend Sholazar Basin River’s Hearth [47, 62]
Alliance Northrend Borean Tundra Fizzcrank Airstrip [55, 20]
Horde Northrend Borean Tundra Bor’gorok Outpost [51, 12]
Alliance Northrend Dragonblight Wintergarde Keep [75, 44]
Horde Northrend Dragonblight Agmar’s Hammer [39, 48]
Alliance Northrend Howling Fjord Fort Wildervar [58, 16]
Horde Northrend Howling Fjord Camp Winterhoof [48, 13]
Alliance Northrend Grizzly Hills Amberpine Lodge [34, 61]
Horde Northrend Grizzly Hills Conquest Hold [19, 61]
Alliance Northrend Zul’Drak The Argent Stand [41, 61]
Horde Northrend Zul’Drak The Argent Stand [43, 71]
Alliance Northrend Storm Peaks K3 [42, 87]
Horde Northrend Storm Peaks K3 [40, 86]
Alliance Northrend Crystalsong Forest Windrunner’s Overlook [78, 75]
Horde Northrend Crystalsong Forest Sunreaver’s Command [80, 53]

I hope you find thise helpful. If you come across more info as you’re completing the holiday events, please post for the benefit of the guild. I’m sure everyone would like to get through this event with all they’ve wished for. Thanks and enjoy the Midsummer Fire Festival!

Get a free Battle-bot pet from Mountain Dew!

•June 9, 2009 • Leave a Comment

The event runs from May 29 to August 20. We’ll cut to the chase and let you know how to do it…

STEP ONE: Create a Battle.net account, confirm your email address, then link your Blizzard accounts to it.

STEP TWO: Create an account on Mountain Dew’s website. Follow the instructions to link it to your Battle.net account.

STEP THREE: Go back to the main Mountain Dew’s website page and find the link in the bottom right that says “The Battle-Bot Pet” and follow the instructions.

STEP FOUR: Restart WoW (cause lets get real, you’re already logged in) and check your mailbox. You’ll find your pet there on ALL your toons. If you create a new toon, they’ll have a pet as well.

STEP FIVE: Your pet needs fuel to fight with other robots, but your pet is your reward for the day. To get your fuel, you’ll have to wait until tomorrow and click on the same button in the bottom right where you got your battle-bot. You can choose red or blue fuel and it will appear in your in-game mail. Your fuel will only be in your mailbox for one day before it expires.

PS – if you click this banner, Anjakka gets more tokens! :D

Raid Times First Week of June???

•May 29, 2009 • 2 Comments

Sorry guys been outta town and pretty busy last few weeks (and next two : )…haven’t caught up with everyone on-line, so wanted to schedule something for next week (I can’t attend this weekend). Please respond and indicate which of the times work for you (list ALL times that work for you).

- 7:30 PM server, June 4 (Thu)
- Evening/night, June 6 (Sat)
- Morning / day, June 7 (Sun)

Ideally we can get in a rotation this summer where we have one weeknight and one weekend night/day scheduled…that way odds are at least one works out for us, and also we’ll get a more regular schedule going and reduce the guesswork in scheduling these things…which will also help in inviting our friends to come and fill slots instead of relying so much on PUG’n.

Sorry again I’ve been outta the loop lately…should be on more starting next week…cyaz! :D

New styles of Druid forms coming in patch 3.2

•May 26, 2009 • Leave a Comment

I remember when Bak first began playing and he showed me the difference between the old cat form and the new cat form. Having played most of my online gaming life with the new cat form, I find that the old one looks…. well, alien.

Perhaps we’ll feel the same way about the druids we know now. Found this article on WoWinsider and though you’d be interested in seeing the new artwork released for Druids. Pretty kewl! :D I find myself wondering, which ones are Horde and which ones are Alliance. Any guesses?

Raid Times

•May 12, 2009 • 4 Comments

Hey all, your friendly neighborhood cat here.. Wait.. I’m not friendly.. And I don’t live near you.. Hm.. Weirdos..

Er.. anyway..  So, we need to start figuring out some good raid times. As was discussed today, while 3 hour windows are good for weekends or nights in which people don’t have to work the next day, I think we should also try to run things during the week if we can sync up on times. A good example is Obsidian Sanctum; a run through OS typically takes less than 45 minutes unless disaster ensues. Given how easily we blitzed it out this weekend, I don’t see that happening.

We can also schedule smaller Naxx runs during the week.. Whenever we can get enough of us together, we should raid something, even for an hour or two at a time. In the stage we are at now, we can PUG in filler people if we can only get ‘most’ of our members..The point being to get more raiding done and get more gear so we can continue to progress towards taking down all of Naxx10 and looking to the future.

So, please reply in the comments with whatever information you can about your availability. I understand that some people have variable schedules; on some weeks I am one of them (I may have to go to Texas again this summer.. feh.. don’t like Texas).. But any information is good and will help move us along..

So POST DAMMIT! :)

Raiding: What are our (your) goals and when do we (you) plan to achieve them?

•April 9, 2009 • 2 Comments

..As an admittedly novice raid leader in a newish guild, through this blog I want to solicit guild feedback on interest, attitudes, and options in running raids, heroics, and regular dungeons. The first step is to establish our guild’s attitude towards raiding. Next, we need to establish goals and realistic timeframes…
